Is the Source Credible?

To understand if a source is trustworthy, find out what you can about it using the book, article or web site that's in front of you. Try and identify:

  • the source's purpose for presenting information
  • the credentials of the author or publisher
  • the relationship of the author or publisher to the source
  • the level of objectivity of the author or publisher towards the topic
  • the date of publication

The below criteria will help you determine whether a source is credible and reliable:
