| YEAR ONE - Position:
Vice-Chair
June
Term as vice-chair/chair-elect begins following the Annual Conference. However, it is beneficial for the vice-chair to attend the following meetings of the Annual Conference that precedes their term as vice-chair: ACRL Leadership Orientation, DLS Executive Committee and section meetings, and ACRL Sections Council meeting. Fall
Receive information from ACRL Office on making appointments. Begin appointment process. Contact standing committee chairs for committee needs and names of potential committee members. Appoint Conference Program Planning Committee for year vice-chair will be chair. Will receive information from ACRL about budgets for the coming year. "Basic service" funding is based on section membership as of August 31 (the last day of the ACRL Budget year). On a rotating basis with other ACRL sections, the section has opportunities to apply for funds for the section manual or a section brochure. As of FY 1996, ACRL is automatically providing funding for 2 eight-page newsletters. ACRL will also send information on applying for "Initiative Funds": "for the purpose of implementing projects that are leading-edge, that will bring about change and enhance the profession of academic librarianship". Solicit nominations for committee assignments from Executive Committee members. February
Send new and renewing committee members the Appointment Acceptance form. For all new chairs include Checklist of Chair Responsibilities (page 4-4) and Calendar for Committee Chairs (page 4-5). March

Annual Conference
Attend section Executive Committee meetings and section's Annual Meeting. Verify Midwinter and Annual time slots with committee chairs. (Deadlines for notifying ACRL of these meeting times are in September and October). Attend ACRL Program Planning Meeting with Conference Program Planning Committee chair. Review with chair of the Conference Program Planning Committee the program proposal that is submitted to ACRL at the end of the conference. YEAR TWO - Position: Chair Immediately Following
Annual Conference

Remind section secretary/archivist-elect to submit all section minutes from the Annual Conference to ACRL. (ACRL lists this as the chair's responsibility, however DLS has assigned this responsibility to the secretary/archivist-elect.) August
Send tentative Midwinter meeting schedule and letter of introduction to the chair of the Communications Committee for publication in fall DLS newsletter. ACRL notifies section chair of approved budget for next fiscal year (September - August). September

Send standing committee agendas for Midwinter Conference to ACRL. Notify Executive Committee members of times,
places, and agendas for Midwinter meeting.
Midwinter Meeting
Serve as section liaison to the ACRL Board of Directors' meetings. February

Chair section's Executive Committee meetings and section's Annual Meeting. Serve as section liaison to the ACRL Board of Directors meeting. (Currently the first ACRL Board Meeting is held Saturday afternoon, at the same time as the DLS program. Depending on the agenda of the Board Meeting, Chair, Vice-Chair or Past chair should determine if and who should attend.) Section chair discusses with vice-chair the work and direction of the section and any specific responsibilities which have been assumed by committee members. Remind Executive Committee members to submit Reimbursement Request form to chair by August 1. At close of term, coordinates the review of the DLS Section Manual so that it remains a useful working document. YEAR THREE - Position: Past chair August
Midwinter Meeting
May be asked to represent ACRL Sections Council meeting. Annual Conference
May be asked to represent the section at ACRL Sections Council meeting. Attend ACRL Board meetings, if chair is unable to attend. Plan and conduct an orientation session for new committee chairs. Term as past chair ends at close of final day of ALA Annual Conference. |
