October - February
Nominating Committee appointed by section vice-chair/chair-elect

April
Informational materials on nominations and elections sent by ACRL office to Nominating Committee.

Names of members of Nominating Committees and call for nominations published in College & Research Libraries News.

Annual Conference
Nominating Committee meets to finalize a slate of candidates.

August 1
Nominating Committee invites nominees to become candidates for office.  Formal letters of consent, along with biographical data sheets, must be obtained from nominees to be forwarded by the committee chair to the ACRL office by January 15.  DLS Bylaws mandate that the Nominating Committee ask each candidate to provide a "brief statement of objectives for the section" in time for the statement to be published prior to balloting.  (See "Instructions for Submitting Your Biographical Information Form" on page 7-2.  ACRL refers to a "statement of concern", while DLS' bylaws uses the terminology "statement of objectives".)

January  15
Names of petition candidates with completed biographical form and "brief statement of objectives for the section" are due in the ACRL office for officer positions.  Information on the candidates for the Discussion Group should be sent to the chair of the Communications Committee, noting that returned ballots should be sent to the chair of the Nominating Committee..

April
ALA mails out ballots for section officers.  The ballot for Discussion Group elections are included in the spring issue of the section newsletter.

June
Candidates for section officers are notified of election results by ALA.
