2001 Present: Ewa Barczyk, Page Brannon, Karen Diller, Carol Kabel, Stephanie Race 1. Welcome and Introductions. 2. There was a discussion of the committee's charge to benefit new members of the committee. 3. Ewa Barczyk is the elected Chair for the membership committee, her term is 2001-2003. 4. There was a discussion of new members, mailing letters to those new members and how to best handle the task. Karen and Ewa split the mailing, next time other committee members will take on the task.
5. Web liaison to the committee is Nicole Campbell. The web committee has assigned a liaison to each committee. The web committee roster will reflect each liaison – committee assignment. The website is being updated with recommended changes. 6. There was a discussion of the brochure. The newest version will be on the website and the print version will be updated when the next time period comes around. Receive funding for printing new brochures approximately every 3-4 years.
7. There will be a social get together in Atlanta at ALA Annual, probably a Sunday lunch. Volunteers may be needed. 8. Carol Kabel suggested handing out new member stickers at the events so that everyone knows who the new members are and can make them feel welcome. 9. Virtual membership - because there are people who cannot attend every conference, the topic of virtual membership was proposed. The guidelines have been approved by the Executive Committee, but not by ACRL – it's a trial at the moment. 10. Carol mentioned the opportunities to run for office. 11. There was a discussion about increasing membership. The DLS is growing, but the key is effective programming, and communication – keeping our presence out there. Karen mentioned that she keeps the brochures and can provide a supply to anyone attending events to help with promoting our section. 12. Contribute to the Journal for Library and Information Services for Distance Learning. They still need articles; the format is both paper and electronic. It's peer reviewed, but they are not limiting the journal articles to PR articles. For those interested contact Harvey Gover. There's an essay section and a program section-can describe unique programs that you are putting together because most programs are unique and different. Other major themes include 13. Anne Marie Casey is the New Chair for the section. Mary Helen Jones is the Vice-Chair, Chair-Elect. 14. ADEC – Alliance for Distance Education for California. 15. There is a conference on Teaching and Distance Learning in August, around the 6-8 or 8-10th in Madison, Wisconsin. Attendees primarily include teaching faculty, but it's a good conference for librarians too, and there are some librarians attending. Should consider attending. 16. The meeting was adjourned.
