ACRL Distance Learning Section Statistics Committee Meeting Minutes 16
January 2001 Minutes
of the Distance Learning Section Statistics Committee Present: Mark Horan (chair), Ann Coder, Chui-Chun Lee Mark reported on his meeting on Saturday with Hugh Thompson, director of publication for ACRL. They discussed some questions the publishers had about the Trends section of the upcoming ACRL Annual Statistics and Trends Survey. The committee members made suggestions that would be forwarded to Mr. Thompson. We also spoke to Marissa Cachero of the Web Committee about details on our pages. The committee then discussed their web pages project. We are looking for articles to use as examples of types of statistical analysis, descriptive statistics and statistical inference. We would like to get examples of different methods within those types of analysis. Chui-Chun presented the work she had done that will be put up on the web pages. After discussion we decided that the problem is that aside from the topic indexing resources can only go so far in helping us fill what essentially would be a checklist of methods. We decided and open request on the offcamp listserv and in any relevant committees might be useful. So our question to authors might be, "If you have a paper that relates directly to some aspect of distance or distributed learning that uses some method of descriptive statistics or statistical inference, we might like to list it on our web site along with any link where it may be available for online viewing, or include a data set. An annotation of 250 word or less should describe the methods and how and why they were used in the article. If you would like to include a link to a data set, then some description of its structure and format must be included." Mark agreed to also send out a request over the offcamp listserv after he made a list of needs types of statistical methods. Return to Statistics Committee Members: Distance Learning Section |
