Record

A record is an online representation of an item (a journal article in a journal, a book in a library's online catalog). It provides information ABOUT a particular item, and sometimes includes full text.

Example database record

Information in a record is placed in its individual areas or FIELDS. For example, the author field provides author information for an item, while the title field provides title information.Together the fields make up a record. When you perform an online search in a database, the specified fields of each record are scanned in order to match the term(s) entered.
