Subject Searching

Subject searching is sometimes thought to be more efficient and precise than performing a keyword search because one uses subject headings, the standardized terms and phrases (also known as the 'controlled vocabulary') assigned to each item in a database.

When you perform a subject search, the database will only search in the subject heading (or descriptor) field rather than anywhere in a record as is the case with keyword searching.
