Although many people go to the web first, it is not always the best place for college research.

Most sites on the web do NOT go through a review process

Some web search tools provide directories which link users to sites by subject or category. There are far too many web pages for any single directory to organize them all, however.

Most information on the web is NOT permanent

Some well-maintained sites are updated with very current information. Other sites are not frequently updated, or turn into dead links without notice.
