Books

Books are written as fact or fiction, covering virtually any topic. For research purposes, you will probably look for books that synthesize information on one topic. Libraries organize their print collections on shelves called "stacks."

PURPOSE: To provide IN-DEPTH information on a topic

CHARACTERISTICS:

• Puts your topic IN CONTEXT with related subjects and issues
• Often written by SUBJECT EXPERTS
• May provide HISTORICAL information
• May include SUMMARIES of research to support an argument

Libraries now purchase books that are electronically available on the web. These are known as e-books.
