Evaluating Information

This tutorial will teach you how to critically evaluate information, and outline clues for evaluating books, articles and web sites based on an information need. After completing this tutorial, you will be able to:

  • Understand why it's important to evaluate information
  • Identify and apply basic criteria for evaluating information
  • Distinguish between popular and scholarly articles
  • Differentiate between database search results and results from a Web search engine
  • Recognize the parts of a web address and a citation
