Judging Authority IN WEB SITES

Determining the credibility of a web page can be tricky. Scan the entire site to learn more about who produced the information.

  • Look for author information at the top and bottom of the main web page
  • Know that a tilde (~) in a web address or URL often indicates it's a personal page which requires more careful evaluation
  • Use links like "Home," "Who are We?" or About the Site"
  • Dig for the history, funding and focus of the organization supporting the site.
